    The private security industry is a rapidly growing sector. This is the perfect time to obtain your training to apply for your SIA licence as there is a significant shortage in the industry. A security career is perfect for anyone with a vested interest in protecting yourself, your property and the general public.

    A Level 2 First Aid course is pre-requisite for this course. Please ensure this is booked, undertaken and passed prior to booking this course. Evidence of this will be required.

    The Action Counters Terrorism (ACT) Security e-learning course must be completed prior to undertaking this course. Evidence of Blue and Orange certificates will be required.

    The pre-learning Course Workbook must be completed prior to attending and brought on the first day of the course.

    This is a 4 day classroom and practical-based course which enables work within unlicensed premises such as schools, airports and shops.

    Unit 1: Principles of working within the Private Security Industry
    • Know the main characteristics and purposes of the private security industry
    • Understand legislation applicable to a security operative
    • Understand arrest procedures relevant to security operatives
    • Understand the importance of safe working practices to comply with legal requirements
    • Understand fire procedures in the workplace
    • Understand emergencies and the importance of emergency procedures
    • Understand how to communicate effectively as a security operative
    • Understand record keeping relevant to the role of the security operative
    • Understand terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of a threat
    • Understand how to keep vulnerable people safe
    • Understand good practice for post incident management

    Unit 2: Principles of working as a Security Officer within the Private Security Industry
    • Understand the roles and responsibilities of security officers
    • Understand the control of access and egress
    • Know the different types of electronic and physical protection systems in the security environment
    • Know how to minimise risk to personal safety at work
    • Understand drug-misuse legislation, issues and procedures relevant to the role of a security officer
    • Know how to conduct effective search procedures
    • Understand how to patrol designated areas safely

    Unit 3: Application of Conflict Management within the Private Security Industry
    • Understand the principles of conflict management appropriate to the role
    • Understand how to recognise, assess and reduce risk in conflict situations
    • Understand the use of problem-solving techniques when resolving conflict
    • Be able to communicate to de-escalate conflict

    This course is suitable for anyone wishing to begin their career working in the frontline of the private security industry. This course will provide the skills and knowledge, in both theory and practical settings, necessary for a delegate to apply for an SIA licence to become a Security Officer. A licensed Security Officer can then apply for jobs in unlicensed premises.

    Delegates must:
    • be 18 years or older
    • have a level 1 competency in spoken and written English to attend this course. If you have any concerns regarding this element, please contact 0345 605 0006
    • currently hold a First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate, valid for at least 12 months from the course start date. Please note that when applying for your licence after completing training, the SIA do not accept online-only First Aid training. If you wish to book onto a First Aid course, you can do so here.

    Physical activity will be involved as part of this course. If you have any concerns about your health or fitness to participate in this training, it should be brought to our attention before booking the course.

    Anyone needing to renew their Security Officer licence must undertake the Security Officer Top Up Course.

    If you wish to work in licensed premises, take a look at our Door Supervisor course, which permits work in licensed premises - such as bars, clubs and stadiums.
