    This course is aimed at experienced gas operatives who wish to carry out tightness testing and direct purging of commercial installation pipework where the volume does not exceed 1 m³.

    It covers the skills and knowledge that aim to support safe and compliant working practices, including leak-testing and purging procedures, prior to commissioning or re-commissioning natural gas installations operating at pressures up to 40mbar and pipe diameters up to 150 mm.

    The TPCP1A Testing & Purging (<1m³ in Volume) course is for experienced operatives who wish to undertake more varied work in the commercial sector. 

    This module is normally undertaken as part of either the Commercial Changeover Gas Safety Package or the Core Commercial Gas Safety Package. 

    Training is not a mandatory pre-requisite to assessment.

    The course includes training and assessment on the following:
    • TPCP1A scope, limitations, and application 
    • Tightness testing (soundness testing) of installation pipework 
    • Direct purging of installation pipework volume limits (not exceeding 1 m³) 
    • Operating pressure (up to 40 mbar) 
    • Pipework diameter (up to 150 mm) 
    • Natural gas installations only

    The course is aimed at experienced gas operatives who wish to carry out tightness testing and direct purging of natural gas installation pipework in smaller commercial settings. It is particularly suitable for delegates who are working on, or moving into, commercial installations with pipework volumes not exceeding 1 m³ in volume.

    Entry Requirements 
    Delegates must already hold one of the following core or changeover gas safety qualifications:
    • COCN1 – Core Commercial Gas Safety qualification 
    • CODNCO1 – Changeover Domestic to Commercial Gas Safety 
    • Core Catering, Laundry, Metering, LPG or Domestic

    On successful completion, delegates receive certification in TPCP1A,  valid for 5 years. 

    As with other ACS gas safety modules, certification requires periodic renewal to remain valid.

    Q4. How is TPCP1A different from TPCP1?
    TPCP1A is for smaller commercial natural gas installations with pipework up to 1M, 40mbar and 150mm diameter. TPCP1 covers larger installations, higher pressures and includes LPG. Completing this course does not automatically allow work on TPCP1 systems. 

    Key Differences:
    TPCP1A
    • Pipework: up to 1 m³, 40mbar, 150mm diameter (natural gas only)
    • Installations: smaller commercial sites 
    • Assessment duration: 1.5 days
    • Progression: does not automatically qualify you for TPCP1

    TPCP1
    • Pipework: over 1 m³, up to 16bar (natural gas) or 2bar (LPG)
    • Installations: larger commercial sites
    • Assessment duration: 2 days 
    • Progression: TPCP1 holders can work on TPCP1A systems

    Who Should Attend 

    Q5. Who should take this course? 
    This course is aimed at operatives and engineers working on smaller commercial gas installations who need to carry out testing and purging of pipework in line with UK safety standards.

    Q6. Are there any entry requirements for this course? 
    Yes. Delegates must already hold a valid core or changeover gas safety qualification such as COCN1, CODNCO1, or an equivalent core catering, metering, LPG or domestic qualification. Delegates must also be in good health and physically able to take part in practical activities.     How the Training Works 

    Q7. How is the course delivered? 
    Training is conducted in-person, and includes classroom theory with hands-on practical exercises, guided by a qualified trainer and aligned with the TPCP1A module scope.

    Q8. What should delegates bring on the day?
    Delegates are required to bring PPE, including safety boots, hi-vis vest/jacket, hard hat (preferably chin strap), protective gloves, eye protection and suitable clothing that includes a long sleeve top and trousers (shorts are not permitted). Where practical demonstrations are conducted outside, delegates must wear suitable waterproof clothing.

    Assessment involves practical and/or knowledge-based assessment activities aligned with ACS requirements.

    Q11. What certification will I receive? 
    Successful delegates who complete the required assessment(s) for this course will receive a LCL certificate and identification card, valid for 5 years. Certificates can take up to 28 working days to be processed. If you haven't received your certificate after this time please email trainingadmin@hss.com.
